The Cordia received a mild facelift in 1983, and in Australia the AA series was released late in the year. It was sold in Japan as the XP at the Car Plaza chain and as the XG, with a slightly smaller grille, at the Galant Shop chain. Engines of 1.4 and 1.6 liters were joined by a turbocharged 1.6 liter making 112 hp. The Cordia was one of the first mass-market cars to offer an optional electronic instrument cluster using a liquid-crystal display.
