On introduction the ASX was positioned below the Outlander in Mitsubishi's crossover SUV line up, until the Eclipse Cross filled the gap between the ASX and Outlander in 2017. The ASX of 2017 was the eighth model year of the first generation, a subcompact crossover on the GS platform. The ASX was positioned below the Outlander in Mitsubishi's crossover SUV line up. The ASX is short for Active Sports Crossover. The RVR nameplate is only used in Japan, South Korea and Canada, and the car is also sold as the Outlander Sport in several markets.
