The 3000GT of 1998 was the fifth model year of the front engine, all wheel drive grand touring coupe, with the transverse mounted 3 liter V6 in naturally aspirated or twin turbo form, in the second year of the third series. The 1997 to 2000 cars are separated by pre or post facelift. The GTO's engines were naturally aspirated or twin turbocharged and available with four wheel steering and full time all wheel drive. The car was based on Mitsubishi's Sigma and Diamante and kept their transverse mounted 3 liter, 24 valve V6 engines and front wheel drive layout.
