The Toyota Vellfire is a twin of the Toyota Alphard that has been available since the second generation and is marketed as a sportier alternative to the Alphard, sold exclusively by the Netz Store dealership chain until 2020. The name Vellfire was derived from velvet and fire, to emphasise smooth and passionate characteristics of the vehicle. From the AH30 generation the Vellfire was given aggressive styling to reflect being the sportier version of the Alphard, and as of the AH40 generation it received its own unique insignia in the form of a stylised V, to distinguish it further from its twin. The second generation Alphard went on sale in May 2008, and the second generation Toyota Safety Sense system debuted with the facelifted Alphard and Vellfire.
