The Meriva A was the first generation of the Opel Meriva, based on the third generation Opel Corsa C and on sale from May 2003. The first official pictures were released in August 2002. It has been described as a mini MPV, a supermini-MPV, a small people carrier and an estate car. Like the larger Zafira it had a flexible interior, marketed as FlexSpace: it seated five in two rows, and the second row could slide forward or backward or be flattened into the floor to make a level platform for more boot space. The second row could carry two or three passengers.
