The Mark V Mini had 8.4 inch brake discs and plastic wheel arches, but retained the same body shell as the Mark IV. The Mini's 25th anniversary fell in 1984 and British Leyland produced a Mini 25 limited edition to mark the occasion and to publicise the recent upgrades, which marked the start of a turnaround in the Mini's fortunes, with 34,974 produced in the year. The Mark V thus began the Mini's third act, with discs and arches as standard.
