In April 1974 a heater became standard equipment on the entry level Mini 850 as well, having by then already been included in the standard specification of the other models for some time. In 1974 the Chilean plant at Arica, which had built the fibreglass Mini since 1970 for the local sourcing rules, was closed, as the market there was never very large. The heater had earlier been left out of the cheapest Mini to save money.
