The Mark III Mini was in 1975 in its penultimate year, nearing the introduction of the Mark IV of 1976, produced by British Leyland, which was nationalised in 1975, at Longbridge in Birmingham. The Mini of this period was cheap to run and popular with younger drivers as a first car, the car of Britain's roads, and it would soon be joined by a replacement project at British Leyland. The Mark IV was due the following year.
