In 1969 the simple name Mini completely replaced the separate Austin and Morris brands, and the Mini became a marque in its own right, the origin of the marque that BMW later owned. The Mark III replaced sliding windows with winding ones in response to customer demand. The car was made by British Leyland, formed in 1968, at Longbridge in Birmingham, and the Mini Clubman and 1275GT variants were introduced.
