The Tempo was discontinued in 1994, replaced by the Contour for model year 1995, and the Topaz sedan was replaced by the Mercury Mystique. The two door Tempo was not directly replaced. The 1994 Topaz was the last year of the Mercury compact that had been introduced for 1984, with the GS trim, available from November 1987 to 1994, as the surviving line. It was produced across several facilities in North America. The Topaz was the Mercury counterpart of the Ford Tempo, a compact car on the chassis of the Ford Escort.
