Mystique GS and LS models returned for 2000 with emergency in trunk releases, but Mercury pulled the Mystique from its lineup early in the 2000 model year. Production ended for the Mystique on 23 December 1999, while Contour production continued into late fall of 2000 to support rental fleets. The Mystique had replaced the Topaz and was the Mercury version of the Contour. It was sold in GS and LS trims with a Zetec four or Duratec V6.
