The third generation Mountaineer was introduced for the 2006 model year, again as a counterpart of the Ford Explorer, with interior trim upgraded to differentiate it from the Explorer Eddie Bauer and Limited and features carried over from the discontinued Lincoln Aviator, such as a DVD based navigation option. After the June 2010 announcement to shelve Mercury, the final Mountaineer was produced on 1 October 2010. Its model years run from 2006 to 2010.
