For 2010 all trim levels received the Ford MyKey system as a standard feature, a programmable security system for vehicles owned by multiple drivers. Following the June 2010 announcement by Ford to shelve the Mercury brand, the final Mountaineer was produced on 1 October 2010 at the Louisville assembly plant. Unlike the Milan, Mariner and Grand Marquis, the Mountaineer was not produced for a short 2011 model year. The Mountaineer was a mid size luxury SUV, the divisional counterpart of the Ford Explorer.
