The 2007 Mariner was the last year of the first generation of the compact crossover SUV, sibling of the Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute but more upmarket, still sold in the United States, Mexico and the Gulf states. It was offered with a hybrid since 2006. The first 2008 Mercury Mariner was unveiled at the South Florida International Auto Show on 6 October 2006 as a new direction for the Mercury brand. It was Mercury's first car based SUV.
