Debuting as a 1985 and a half model change, Ford released a revision of the first generation Escort, and the Lynx underwent a mid 1985 body revision. It was distinguished by the addition of the cascading Mercury emblem replacing the big cat logo used by the Mercury Cougar, and the Lynx received an all black grille between flush mounted aerodynamic headlamps. The 1.6 L engine was replaced with a more powerful 1.9 L. It was front wheel drive with a transverse mounted engine.
