For 1984 two new engines were introduced: a Mazda sourced 2.0 litre diesel inline four producing 52 horsepower became available on non GT Escort and Lynx trims, and a turbocharged 1.6 litre four raised output to 120 horsepower for the EXP Turbo, then reaching the Escort GT and the Lynx RS during the 1984 model year. The trim levels were revised, and the interior received a new dashboard. The Lynx shared its entire body with the Ford Escort, differing in grille styling, parking light and taillamp lenses and extra chrome trim.
