The 1983 model year was the last for the LN7. The St. Thomas Assembly plant produced LN7s from February 16, 1981, to June 30, 1983, ending in the 1983 model year for both cars and leaving the American plants to produce all EXPs from 1984 to 1988. The LN7 was derived from the American Ford Escort, with the Escort's powertrain, chassis and 1.6 L CVH engine rated at 70 horsepower. It was sold exclusively in North America. The LN7 was the divisional counterpart of the Ford EXP, the first two seat Ford since the original Thunderbird. It sold far under projections, with approximately 40,000 LN7s sold in all.
