For 1994 a second facelift saw a revision of the grille, taillamps and a simplification of the side molding. The interior was also revised and now included dual airbags with a wraparound style interior. The Cougar shifted from the overhead valve 302 cubic inch V8 to a 205 horsepower 4.6 L SOHC V8 shared with the Mercury Grand Marquis, and the transmission became the electronically controlled 4R70W. The Cougar was built on the MN12 platform with four wheel independent suspension and shared it with the Ford Thunderbird.
