1961 Mercury Comet

Automobiles

In response to complaints about the low performance of the 144 cubic inch engine, a 170 cubic inch Thriftpower with a single barrel Holley carburetor producing 101 horsepower was released for the 1961 model year. The changes to the 1961 Comet were minimal, such as moving the Comet script from the front fender to the rear quarter and a new grille design. The Comet was introduced to Canada in 1961, replacing the Frontenac. It shared its naming convention with the Space Race and the Mercury Meteor.
