The Mazda6 was produced until 2024, which closed a run of twenty two years that began with the first Atenza in 2002. The third generation was the last, sold as a sedan or wagon, and the nameplate had replaced the Capella and 626. It was the first car built to the Stylish, Insightful and Spirited design philosophy that Mazda later followed with the Mazda2, RX-8, Mazda3, Mazda5, MX-5 and CX-7, and it was still made at Hofu in Japan.
