Canada received the Mazda6 as a 2004 model, a year after the United States. The Mazda6 estate won What Car? magazine's Best Estate award in 2004, and the Australian Best Cars contest put the car second among mid size cars that year, behind the Subaru Liberty. The range still ran from the 1.8 liter and 2.0 liter petrol fours to the 2.3 liter engine and the V6 for North America, with diesel estates in Europe, built in Japan, Michigan and China.
