In February 2025 Mazda discontinued the gasoline powered Mazda2 in the United Kingdom, leaving the Toyota Yaris derived Mazda2 Hybrid as its successor there. The Mazda built hatchback and sedan with the Skyactiv engines remained on sale in other markets, as the twenty fourth model year of the nameplate that began in 2002 and the twelfth of the third generation, and the Mazda2 was still assembled in Thailand.
