The Scrum of 1996 was in its sixth year as the second generation, an Autozam branded kei van and truck with a mid engine van and a cab over truck, built by Suzuki as the Every and Carry and sold by Mazda. Its engines were three cylinder SOHC units, a 61 PS intercooled turbo and 50 PS and 42 PS naturally aspirated engines, and the brand was to return to Mazda in 1997. The name Scrum comes from the rugby term, chosen to suggest cooperation among customers and the Mazda group.
