Sales of the RX-8 ended in Europe in 2010 after the car failed to meet the region's emission standards. In America the 2010 RX-8 placed third of seven in Car and Driver's comparison of the best handling cars for less than 100,000 dollars, and Ryan Eversley won both races at Mid-Ohio in the SCCA World Challenge touring car class that year. SpeedSource also won the 24 Hours of Daytona GT class again in 2010. The name is a direct callback to the RX-7 Spirit R, the final special edition of the previous RX-7.
