As with the first generation Explorer, every Mazda Navajo of 1993 was fitted with a 4.0 liter V6 producing 160 hp, with a five speed manual as standard and a four speed automatic as an option on both the DX and LX trims. Mazda had donated a 1991 Navajo to the Navajo people after criticism of its use of the name without compensating the tribe. The Navajo was offered in base DX and top tier LX trims. The Navajo won the 1991 Motor Trend Truck of the Year award.
