The ND MX-5 reached its eighth year of production in 2022 as the soft top roadster and the Retractable Fastback with rigid roof and buttresses. It was the best selling two seat convertible sports car in history, with more than a million sold, and iSeeCars would later name it the sports car that United States owners keep the longest. With a nearly even front to rear weight balance, handling is close to neutral. Wheels magazine named it Car of the Year for 2016.
