The MPV of 1997 was in its tenth model year of the first generation, a rear wheel drive minivan now facing front wheel drive rivals from Toyota, Nissan and Honda. Mazda sold it as a rear wheel drive model with optional selectable four wheel drive. The MPV is a minivan manufactured by Mazda, and over one million MPV models have been produced since its introduction.
