The 929 began US and Canadian sales in 1987; although predominantly available as a 3.0 liter V6, there were a rare few that made it to the North American market as a four cylinder 2.2 liter F2 in a rear wheel drive configuration. Actor James Garner was used as a spokesman introducing the 929 to North America. The name Luce was taken from the Italian word for light. In 1991 the Luce was replaced by the Sentia, which was also exported under the 929 nameplate.
