In December 2003 a new common rail direct fuel injection diesel model was introduced. The Bongo of 2003 was in its fifth year of the fourth generation, the SK platform cabover van and truck, sold in Japan, Australia and New Zealand as the Mazda E series and Bongo, and as the Mitsubishi Delica Cargo. It also formed the basis for the long running Kia Bongo range. The Bongo was also known as the Ford Econovan and Eunos Cargo, and it has been built with rear, middle and front mounted engines.
