The Bongo of 2023 was in its fourth year of the fifth generation, available as a van and a truck, based on the Daihatsu Gran Max and sold in Japan. The Bongo Brawny, reintroduced in April 2019 as a badge engineered Toyota HiAce, was sold alongside it as the larger van. It also formed the basis for the long running Kia Bongo range. The Bongo was also known as the Ford Econovan and Eunos Cargo, and it has been built with rear, middle and front mounted engines.
