Opel Admiral (Admiral B, 1969 to 1977)

Automobiles

The Admiral B was the second series of the Opel Admiral, introduced just in time for the Geneva Motor Show in March 1969 together with the new Kapitän and Diplomat. The Kapitän was discontinued after May 1970, while the Admiral and Diplomat survived until 1977 and were replaced by the smaller Opel Senator in 1978. It shared the 2,845 mm wheelbase of the Admiral A, but its overall length of 4,907 mm was 31 mm shorter. The body came with American flair, flamboyant in 1969 but out of step with the restrained mood of the mid 1970s after the 1973 oil shocks. A De Dion rear axle greatly improved road holding but cost more to build and reduced boot space, and a three-speed Strasburg automatic was offered.
