Maybach 57

Automobiles

The Maybach 57, coded W240, is the shorter of the two models with which Mercedes-Benz revived the Maybach brand under DaimlerChrysler in 2002, the other being the longer 62. The numbers give the length of each car in decimetres, and the 57 is the one more likely to be driven by its owner. Both derive from the Mercedes-Benz Maybach concept shown at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show and from a heavily reworked W140 S-Class platform, as ultra-luxury flagships above the S-Class and successors to the Mercedes-Benz 600. The base engine is the M285, a 5.5 litre twin-turbo V12, and the 57 S of 2005 uses a 6.0 litre AMG V12. Daimler announced in November 2011 that the brand would cease in 2013.
