Maybach

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Maybach is a German luxury car marque. The original company was founded in 1909 by Wilhelm Maybach and his son Karl as an aero-engine builder for the Zeppelin works, and it built opulent cars from 1921 to 1940. Daimler-Benz bought it in 1960, and the name was revived in 2002 under DaimlerChrysler as a stand-alone ultra-luxury brand with the Maybach 57 and 62, which shared much with Mercedes-Benz saloons. Sales fell far short of the 2,000 a year that DaimlerChrysler had hoped for, Daimler announced in 2011 that the marque would end, and the last car was built in December 2012. Since 2015 the name lives on as the Mercedes-Maybach sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz.
