The third generation Town Car was released for the 1998 model year, debuting at the 1997 New York show, with the Panther chassis returning with multiple upgrades to the suspension and brakes. The new body was three inches shorter than the 1997 car but two inches wider and an inch taller, the tallest Lincoln sedan in 40 years, with a sleeker curved design. Town Car badging returned to the front fenders with trim badging on the C pillar.
