In 1982 the Town Car overtook the Mark VI to become the best selling Lincoln model line, a title it would maintain until its discontinuation. The two door Town Car, largely overshadowed by its Mark VI counterpart, was dropped for 1982, leaving full size Lincolns sold exclusively as four door sedans. Lincoln also introduced a redesigned Continental for 1982, moving it to the midsize segment. Its 302 cubic inch V8 was marketed as a 5.0 liter engine.
