The MKT entered production at the Oakville Assembly plant in July 2009 for the 2010 model year, after being presented as a concept at the 2008 Detroit show. From 2010 to 2012 the 3.7 liter engine produced 268 horsepower. Between 2010 and 2016, apart from the Town Car livery variants, the MKT was not sold by trim level, with examples largely identified by their engine and drivetrain configuration. In October 2010 Ford announced livery and limousine variants as potential replacements for the Town Car.
