The 1978 Continental Mark V offered the Diamond Jubilee Edition, marking Ford's 75th anniversary, and a full length simulated convertible Carriage Roof option in white canvas embossed vinyl, in place of opera windows. For 1978 a two stage base coat and clear coat was used on metallic colors only, and one year only electro mechanical seat belt warning chimes were optional, standard on the Diamond Jubilee. It was assembled at Wixom Assembly alongside the Lincoln Continental.
