In 1953 Lincoln sold 26,640 Capris, nearly double the debut year. The Capri was not offered in an extended length limousine, and the listed retail price was 3,665 dollars for the convertible, a significant price reduction from the elite luxury sedans the company had produced in the past. The exclusive Continental had been discontinued in 1948, leaving only the Cosmopolitan beneath it. The Lincoln Capri was a full size luxury car named for an island in the Gulf of Naples.
