1958 Land Rover Series

Automobiles

The Series II went into production in 1958, the first Land Rover to receive the attention of Rover's styling department. David Bache gave it the barrel-side waistline, five inches wider to cover wider tracks, and a better truck cab with curved side windows and a rounded roof. The 2.25-litre petrol engine made its debut, though roughly 1,500 early short-wheelbase vehicles kept the old 2.0-litre. Series I production overlapped, and Australia's army began taking the Series 2 the same year while Spain's Santana started its licensed production.
