1956 Land Rover Series

Automobiles

Mid-1956 saw the wheelbases lengthened by 2 inches to 88 and 109 inches, with the front chassis cross-member moved forward an inch to make room for the diesel engine that was to be offered the following year. The 107-inch Station Wagon was left unchanged and was never given a diesel. These dimensions remained in use on Land Rovers for the next 25 years. The brand also counts 1956 as the year it offered the world's first four- or five-door four-wheel-drive off-road station wagon.
