In 2018 the Discovery Sport was Land Rover's most successful model, with 95,520 sold worldwide, ahead of the Range Rover Sport with 77,847. Since 2017 it had been the best-selling Land Rover, and it was the Freelander's successor, with the 2.0-litre Ingenium range and a front-wheel-drive eD4 at the economical end. In October 2018 a new plant opened at Nitra in Slovakia, but it built the Discovery rather than this car, which remained at Halewood and in Brazil, India and China.
