2001 Land Rover Discovery

Automobiles

The Series II Discovery of 2001 was Ford-owned, the first full year under Ford after the 2000 purchase, and it continued to rely on the Td5 five-cylinder diesel, said to be smoother and more torquey at low revs than the 300Tdi it replaced, and on the 4.0-litre V8. The Freelander, a cheaper compact model, was launched in the United States and Canada that year for the 2002 model year, powered only by a 2.5-litre Rover KV6 petrol engine with a five-speed automatic gearbox.
