The Discovery 3, known as the LR3 across North America and in the Middle East, was introduced on 2 April 2004 as the first ground-up Discovery. It had a separate frame married to a monocoque body in what Land Rover called Integrated Body Frame construction, full independent air suspension, a six-speed gearbox, permanent four-wheel drive and the Terrain Response system that let the driver choose a terrain type from a dial. Engines came from Jaguar's sister company: a 2.7-litre TdV6 diesel and, for the US and as the performance option, a 4.4-litre V8. It was widely praised and a facelift followed in 2008.
