The 2002 model year brought further refinements to the Td5 to meet tighter emissions rules, and the top-specification XS 4x4 with heated windscreen and seats, air conditioning, ABS, traction control and part-leather seats. The County package became available on any model, the centre console and instrument lighting were improved, and front electric windows were offered for the first time. The twelve-seater, a survivor from the Series era, was dropped. The Defender Black limited edition, in Java black on XS trim, went on sale.
