The year 1986 saw the engines improved to match the more advanced Japanese rivals. The Diesel Turbo, a lightly turbocharged version of the 2.5-litre diesel, arrived in September with a stronger crankshaft, special pistons and exhaust valves, an eight-bladed fan and an oil cooler, giving 85 horsepower. The V8 was upgraded at the same time, rising to 134 horsepower and gaining SU carburettors. The British Army began taking a smaller fleet of Nineties, and BL became Rover Group plc, with the Llama project under way.
