The 2020 Defender went on sale after its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2019, the first all-new Defender since 1983. It shares nothing with the model it replaced, being an aluminium monocoque with permanent four-wheel drive, locking differentials and a two-speed transfer case. Deliveries of the five-door 110 began in early 2020, with the three-door 90 following in late 2020. The initial engines were Ingenium four-cylinder diesel and petrol units and a six-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol, with a plug-in hybrid for the 110.
