The first Wrangler, internally the YJ, was unveiled in February 1986 as a 1987 model and went on sale on 13 May 1986. It replaced the CJ line with a wider track, a slightly lower stance, an updated interior and a revised chassis for better handling and safety. It was built in Brampton, Ontario until that plant closed in April 1992, and then in Toledo, Ohio. A total of 632,231 YJs were built through the 1995 model year. Its model years run from 1987 to 1995.
