From 1976 all Wagoneer and Cherokee models received strengthened frames with stronger cross members and boxed side rail construction. The 1976 Wagoneer was a five door luxury 4x4 with an AMC V8, built at the Stickney Plant in Toledo, Ohio, and it was sold beside the Cherokee and the J Series pickups that shared its SJ platform, as AMC prepared to move the Wagoneer upmarket in 1978. The Wagoneer had a woodgrain exterior.
