From 1980 through 1983 the CJ-5 came standard with a Hurricane branded version of the GM Iron Duke four cylinder with a close ratio four speed manual transmission, while the 258 cubic inch AMC six remained an option, with the Dana 30 front axle retained but with a five bolt locking hub pattern. A Golden Hawk sticker package was offered for 1980 on the CJ-5, CJ-7 and Cherokee, and a 60 Minutes segment in December 1980 attacked the CJ-5's stability.
