For the 1976 model year the tub and frame were modified, the frame going from a partially open channel frame with riveted crossmembers to a mostly boxed frame with welded crossmembers and widening from front to rear, and the body tub became more rounded. The windshield frame and angle changed, so tops for 1955 through 1975 differ from those for 1976 through 1983, and the rear axle changed from a Dana 44 to an AMC model 20.
